Christmas decoration

My Christmas tree decreased to some branches in a vase, but it is still green and spruce-ish. The decoration is 1/2 of origami diamond, folded from metallic candy wrappings. Looks like small trees, doesn't it? 

Plums, processed

A bag of plums from a friend has been converted to compote and liqueur during the autumn months. This is the sweet result, ready to be distributed as gifts.

No more handicraft handicap

This is the first handicraft post EVER. Last Thursday I, owner of no handy skills whatsoever, sewed a shoulderbag. With kind help of my friend K who draw the pattern and instructed me. But it was me who did the actual sewing.

After that everything seems possible. I may pick up knitting needles, start carpentering, have a dog or run a marathon.

How to spend your Sunday properly

I'd like to share and present the guidelines for a perfect Sunday. Not sure if I can repeat it myself following the instructions, but being a one-off maybe makes it even better.

Start with going to Dzban beach (the muddy pond I referred already in earlier posts) and take a nap under the birch. Do not mind the bugs biting your pale skin. Notice that slight hangover, aquired the day before, makes the heat and every sensation even more intense. Eat some liquorice to get your blood pressure up.

When revived enough, have luncheon at Grazing Daysi veg(an/ggie?) restaurant across the pond. The place is just too good to be true, like a spanish hacienda. The interior was ultracool from handwritten menus to lampshades made from aluminium and pallet tables, views and everything. I had salad with kohlrabi, strawberry-orange lemonade and spelt pancake. Lunch companion had beans (sorry, can't remember more precisely), watermelon-mint lemonade, pancake and tulsi tea. Google tulsi.

Only negative things I can come up with was that I didn't see a dog meandering around at the establisment. There should be a dog!

After lunch relocate your towel to the other side of the pond, the one you need to pay. Take another nap. Swim, eat liquorice, nap, count the clouds... Repeat this until it starts to rain sometime in the afternoon. Retreat just before the thunderstorm. Lie doggo in the metro tunnels until the rain ceases. Go home, be happy.

Kitchen shots

How luxurious it feels to have a kitchen curtain! Never you mind it is an IKEA sheet on the wall, still it swings gently in the evening breeze. As for today's confession, apparently I'm not very handy screwing things and installing curtain rods. My thumb gets hurt, I get sweaty, angry, thirsty and make a lot of unnecessary holes in the wall.

The Kitchen is eventually going to be an Industrial one. Chrome, black, gray, white, glass, metal and a hint of turquoise (refuse to call it mint green) like on the lower photo. It is going to be Über-cool, you just wait and see.

Tomorrow I'm becoming truly böurgeöis, I'm going to have a roller blind. And cake, not as they are of any consequence.

Welcome to my boudoir

This is the beginning of interior design pics. Until now there hasn't been much to depict, unless empty rooms, temporary solutions and cardboard boxes are hip for someone. Some progress, finally.

The canopy a.k.a mosquito net above the bed is something I've dreamt of since little girl, and mostly only when being a little girl. But now that the canopy is here, it looks relevant to the atmosphere of the flat. It can serve as gazebo, too. Or retreat spot, or invisibility cloak. Of course it could provide some shelter from mosquitos as well. Not that there are any.

As a bonus, I reveal a sentence I've never said but always wanted to say, preferably in a posh british upperclass accent: Darling, shall we have the afternoon tea at gazebo? Now I'm half through making it real.

Origami bracelet

After finishing a super easy bracelet of modular origami, I realized the technique was the same that was used decades and centuries ago in agricultural Finland making dishes, decoration or even shoes from birchbark. So nothing new under the sun, obviously.

Hyvää mieltä voi taitella | Foldable pleasures

Taittelin ylioppilaslahjarahoista origamiasun. Onhan se vähän hassu, mutta kuitenkin persoonallisempi kuin setelit kortin välissä. Erityisesti tykkäsin menninkäis-haltija-tossuista. Modulaarikolmiosta olen ihan älyttömän ylpeä, se on varmaan toiseksi haastavin origamini ikinä.

Folded graduation gift money as an outfit. Ok, it is a bit funny looking but more personal than plain bank notes. I especially like the pixie booties. And I'm so proud of the modular origami triangle I managed to finish. It may be my second most challenging origami ever!

Sisustussuunnittelun toteuttaminen on viivästynyt, mutta ideoita kerään koko ajan. Viikko sitten kävin puutarha- ja huonekalumessuilla Prahassa. 85% esillä olevista esineistä ei kolahtanut lainkaan, aiheutti naurunpyrskähdyksiä tai inhon väristyksiä, mutta oli siellä kivojakin asioita esillä. Nyt Bolognassa aion käyttää vapaapäiväni ikkunaostoksia tehden ja sisustusliikkeiden valikoimaa selaillen. Alla kuvia kuormalavoista ennen ja jälkeen, se kun nyt vaan on niin trendikäs materiaali.

Interior design

Downshiftausyritykseni on opettanut minulle seuraavaa: joogamatolla nukkumisen jälkeen peruspatja tuntuu niin hyvältä että melkein itkettää. Tuoli on aivan aliarvostettu kodin esine, myös paikka tai taso johon laskea esineitä on hyvin kätevä. Toki minulla on neliökaupalla lattiaa johon laskea esineitä, mutta se ei tunnu samalta. Tuoliosastolla on luvassa parannus, viikonlopuksi DIY-puuhaa näiden roskalavalta löydettyjen jakkaroiden kanssa.

Ja enpä olisi vielä joku aika sitten uskonut lisääväni tageihin sisustuksen!

Definitely have learned something during these past days of downshifting. After sleeping on a yoga mat a basic mattrass feels SO luxurious. Also chairs, the handy and conveient pieces of furniture are much too underrated. Ode to chairs! Not that I'm chairless anymore. These two found stools are waiting for sandpaper, glue and paint.
